Building Confidence for Dating After 60 June 9, 2025 – Posted in: Games
Before
After
Ladies, this is one of the hardest areas to overcome. Dating again after many years of being married or in a significant other relationship can be rather frightening. Regardless of your situation, getting back out there can be a challenging task. You may think you don’t need a new man in your life, but (trust me) it is so much more fun with the right companion.
Let’s work on some outside confidence builders. Are you satisfied with your appearance? Let’s start with your visual look. If you feel this area needs an upgrade, decide what the upgrade might be.
Confidence-Building Areas
Body Image
Go to the gym, start a walking group with your neighbours, join the local YWCA, try eating healthier, or eat less at meals. I put a picture on the refrigerator of what I looked like a few years ago as a goal setter and motivator.
Face/Skin
Ask some of your girlfriends where to go for a good facial. I get one every 3 months. It revitalizes your skin, giving it a healthy glow. I also buy some of the products my spa sells to help keep my skin looking its best. If you want to do a facial at home, go on Google to see what the best recommendations are, based on reviews.
Facial Makeover
The next thing I did was to visit Sephora (or your favourite makeup counter) and have a makeover. Buy some new, updated makeup, even if it’s just the latest in shadow and mascara. This does wonders for me because I know I look my best possible face forward.
Hair
Is your “do” one you’ve worn for a hundred years? Time for fresh eyes to offer suggestions for something different or add a unique twist to what you already have. Visit a salon that caters to a slightly younger clientele. I asked one of the women I knew who always looked cute in her hairdo where she went. I got a new salon and a new stylist to give me suggestions. I felt like a rock star!
Wardrobe
Time to clean out your closet. With each new season, I go through my closet and pick out items I haven’t worn in a few years. I live in the south, so I keep some clothes for travelling and take what I don’t need or is outdated to our local women’s shelter. Go with a girlfriend and shop for four new items: fresh (sexy) underwear, top, pants or skirt/sundress, stylish shoes. Whatever your style, a new pair of shoes always uplifts my spirit.
Getting Out There
Start slowly if you’re not yet confident. Trust me, there are many men out there who are just as lonely as you. The trick is finding them. I won’t go into detail here. This is a big category. Please visit my blog, Where to Meet New People/Men.
This list may seem overwhelming, so I’ve created a checklist for you. I used to do this for my new teachers. College doesn’t prepare them for the first day of school!
My ChangeOver Checklist
Directions:
- Review the list. Write something you want to accomplish in the last column under Topic.
- Cross off anything that does not require an upgrade.
- Number what is left according to what you want to accomplish first, second, etc.
- When you’re ready, fill in the Timeline box, as indicated by the italicized text.
- When the task is completed, place a large checkmark in the Completed column. Some boxes require more than one check.
- Once all tasks have been completed, treat yourself to something enjoyable as a celebration.
- Help a friend who is struggling, just as you did!
